There are three actors from the movie Burlesque that I chose for this weeks blog entry. Stanley Tucci who plays the sassy and witty costumer Sean, Christina Aguilera who plays the young dreaming actress Ali and Cher who plays the dominant owner Tess. Each are different types of actors, some having been in the business of acting longer and some who primarily don’t act, but nonetheless make an enjoyable musical film.

This musical film takes place in Los Angeles, California where the young and hopeful Ali comes to work for her dreams of becoming famous. She finds her self at a neo-burlesque club owned by Tess. Christina Aguilera, in this film, portrays the acting characteristics of a impersonator. The impersonator merely copies the manner and behavior of the character given to them without adding any of their own personality. This is evident in Aguilera’s acting simply because her acting experience is very minor. She doesn’t have the prior acting experience to have a signature or enough to be considered a wild card. On top of all of this this role is very specific and stereotypical. The young pretty girl is looking to become famous, no a lot of acting expertise is necessary to fulfill this aged character type.

Cher is a personality actor. She has been in multiple movies and in this movie specifically her character plays off the fact that Cher is an older singer. While Cher is still very much relevant in today’s society, in the movie she plays a retired performer who owns the Burlesque club. Tess, Cher’s character, is a powerful and ambitious women who works for what she wants, as did Cher in creating her career. This clip is of Tess singing You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me, a powerful song about Tess pushing forward to keep her club.
